EDGE was founded in 2019 by Dr. Joey Gawrysiak, Zachary Harrington, and Christopher Scroggins. The trio met while working together to build the Shenandoah University Esports program. Gawrysiak, Harrington, and Scroggins collaborated to write the academic curriculum, design the Esports Arena, formulate an esports advisory board, and develop student organizations to complement the academic and competitive teams at the university. Recognizing the need for experts in the field, the three decided to found EDGE to help grow the industry that they are passionate about.

Scroggins oversees the day-to-day and business operations of EDGE. Prior to his role with EDGE, he was the main Instructor of Esports at Shenandoah University. Scroggins has appeared on radio shows, news sources such as NPR, and presented at numerous esports conferences and panels across the country. His expertise lies within esports business, strategic planning, and curriculum development. In addition to his role at EDGE, he is currently the Academic Director of Esports at West Virginia University.
At EDGE, Gawrysiak is in charge of strategic planning and communication. He is also the Director of Esports and a Professor of Esports for the award-winning esports program at Shenandoah University. He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Collegiate Esports and the Board of Advisors for NASEF. Gawrysiak's expertise is in collegiate esports and program development. He has his Ph.D. in Sport Management and Policy from the University of Georgia.
Harrington provides valuable knowledge regarding esports technology and hardware for EDGE. In addition to his IT knowledge, Harrington excels in esports-related coaching and streamlining the operations of collegiate esports programs. For his proficiency in coaching, Harrington was awarded the college NAECAD National Esports Coach of the Year. He has also served as the Assistant Director of Esports at Shenandoah University.
Paranjape is the VP of Esports Business for the Washington Justice and serves as the Special Advisor for EDGE. Paranjape provides invaluable business insight to the Partners of EDGE and their clients. He has been the recipient of both the Sports Business Journal New Voices Under 30 and Front Office Sports Rising 25 awards.
